Indoor Treasure Hunt: Hide treats or toys throughout your home and create a fun treasure hunt for your dogs. Use their sense of smell to guide them and make it a rewarding experience. This activity will keep them engaged, mentally stimulated, and provide a positive outlet for their energy.
Engaging and Durable Toys: Invest in interactive, and long-lasting toys designed for dogs. Our Knotties® are an excellent choice for an engaging toy. Their knotted limbs increase their durability, and encourage tiring pulling! Interactive toys provide mental stimulation and keep dogs entertained for hours.
Indoor Training Sessions: Rainy days are perfect for working on training with your dogs. Teach them new tricks, practice obedience commands, or reinforce their existing training. Training sessions provide mental stimulation, strengthen the bond between you and your dogs, and help them expend energy in a positive way.
Remember, it's essential to consider your dog's individual preferences, energy levels, and any specific restrictions or limitations they may have. The fun doesn't have to stop when it pours, in fact, this is the perfect time to teach your pup not to be afraid of the rain- but to embrace it!
]]>Air Force Veteran Cornelius Twohig met his now service dog, Dana through WCC's Mission Based Trauma Recovery program, and there was a blatant instant bond. He says “I was told she sort of picked me, versus me picking her.” Dana has helped Cornelius regain confidence and comfortability in areas he lacked before previously meeting her- “I leave the house now, that’s the biggest one, which I didn’t do a lot of.” He does not leave Dana alone, she is now his forever furry pal, and serves in more ways than just companionship and love.
Dana has become an integral part of Cornelius’ everyday life. She can pick up on her owner’s stress cues, and warning signs, as well as feel them within others surrounding her, making her truly a special pup. Cornelius emphasizes the importance of having a service dog by one’s side if they feel as though they’re dealing with similar struggles.
Beyond the practical assistance, the emotional benefits of the veteran-service dog relationship are immeasurable. A service dog becomes more than just a loyal companion; they become a constant source of unconditional love, a steadfast presence in times of distress, and a non-judgmental confidant. They offer a listening ear, a comforting touch, and a gentle nudge, reminding their veteran partners that they are never alone in their struggles. Dana found a best new pal, and Air Force Veteran Cornelius Twohig met his furry forever companion.

Just like humans, dogs can experience boredom and anxiety, which can lead to unwanted behaviors, like excessive barking, or separation anxiety. Dog toys serve as a distraction, redirecting their attention away from destructive habits and offering a healthy and positive outlet for their energy. Toys dogs can chomp on for example, can provide a calming effect by allowing dogs to engage in natural chewing behaviors, and helping to reduce stress levels.
Dog toys can play a crucial role in helping to build stronger bonds between dogs and their human companions, or even dogs, and their fellow dog friends. Playing interactive games, like fetch or tug-of-war, provides fun physical exercise, strengthens emotional connection, promotes socialization skills, and can help prevent fear or aggression towards other canines.
Many of us dog owners know all too well the challenges of dealing with a hyperactive pup. A good durable dog toy can offer an effective way to channel a dog's excess energy. These toys can help release pent-up energy, promoting a sense of calmness and relaxation in your pup afterward.
Our canine companion's mental health should never be overlooked. Dog toys serve as a great tool in promoting their mental well-being, leading to having an overall happy, healthy pup. So let's prioritize the mental health of our furry friends by providing them with engaging durable toys, ensuring a colorful enriched life!
]]>This Memorial Day, we commemorate Army Major Marie Therese Rossi, the first Army female unit commander to lead combat operations in Dessert Storm. Army Major Marie Rossi, from Oradell, New Jersey, graduated from River Dell High School. She then attended Dickinson College where she enrolled in her school’s Army ROTC program. In 1980, Major Rossi obtained her BA in Psychology and upon graduation went on to be commissioned a Second Lieutenant.
As a Captain, Rossi was chosen to attend Army Flight School at Fort Rucker and was assigned to the Charter Member Class of the Army Aviation. Major Rossi completed a rotary-wing flight program and became a pilot in 1986. By 1991, she was commanding Company B of the 2nd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, 18th Aviation Brigade, a CH-47D Chinook helicopter company. In support of Operation Desert Shield Major Rossi deployed to Saudi Arabia, with her unit tasked to fly fuel and ammunition to the advancing 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, often dropping supplies ahead of the friendly forces into enemy territory. On the evening of March 1, 1991, Major Rossi was killed, along with her crew, during a helicopter accident in bad weather. She was 32 years old.
Major Rossi was the first female US combat commander to fly into battle when she did so in the Persian Gulf War. In 1992, Major Rossi was inducted into the Army Aviation Hall of Fame. The day before the war began, Major Rossi was interviewed by CNN and humbly said “What I am doing is no greater or less than the man who is flying next to me. I think if you talk to the women who are professionals in the military, we see ourselves as soldiers.”
It is with enormous pride that our HuggleCause™ partners at Warrior Canine Connection have named WCC Rossi in honor of this outstanding soldier.
We are proud to work with Warrior Canine Connection to share these stories. You can help support WCC through the purchase of a WCC HuggleCause™ Knotties® or by making a direct donation.

Animal assisted therapy can help play a vital role with military Veterans. WCC's Dewey, a military family support dog providing therapeutic support, brought a new sense of togetherness for the O'Neill family. Tyler O'Neill explains "With over 12 combat deployments, there's no way that can't affect somebody and their family. Dewey is like an anchor, able to be a common focus for all of us and be in the moment." As a family support dog, the benefits extend to every family member. Air Force Veteran Liam O’Neill says “It was great to see the kids warm up to WCC Dewey immediately. He was pretty chill, and his energy wasn't bouncing all over the place”.
Dogs have a special way of staying present, they simply are who they are, with their own personalities, happy to be in your presence. Dewey allows the O'Neill family to stay in the moment, realizing the most precious parts of life happens in the now. “We think Dewey's impact is going to be significant in his calm presence and his demeaner. He’s our new family member. We are very happy with the end result, very happy with Dewey."
Meet the O’Neill’s and their new family member here: https://youtu.be/cCU3dyo5SOM
On National Therapy Dog Day, let's give recognition to the support dogs bringing their joyful spirit to so many.

Play will also comfort a cat. Cats are sensitive creatures and changes in their environment can add stress – even small changes can have an impact. Not only is play extremely comforting for your cats, if you schedule it at regular times, you'll help create a routine. When it comes to selecting toys for your feline friend, experts recommend you opt for several different kinds to help ensure your cat will stay interested and engaged. That’s an important reason why our HuggleKats toys are divided into groups determined by cats play style, from hunting to swatting and to interacting.
Swatting. Some cats love to run around and chase things! Usually this means a cat enjoys swat play. Swat play involves small toys that move around easily upon a swat of a paw! We recommend our ball shaped toys like our FlufferFleece Ballies or our Fur Ballies. Even our Ma-Cat-a-Roonies can be rolled around for loads of fun!
Hunting. Cats are natural hunters! Pouncing and batting toys is a safe way for cats to practice their instincts. We took the typical prey of cats and turned them into special toys guaranteed to provide endless amounts of fun. From our Mightie Mice and Squooshie Mice to our Feller Squirellie and Wee Chippie, all the way to Sardinies and Dust Bunnies, there’s something for every cat!
Interacting. If you're wanting to strengthen your bond with your cat and spend quality time together, play is the ideal solution. Toys give you an opportunity to interact with your cat on a deeper level, and spending 15 or 20 minutes together having fun together will help you grow closer, especially if you have a cat that isn't all that cuddly and shuns “lap time”. From stimulating fabrics like the glitter on our Bindies to the free-flowing strings on our Jellie Fish and Chickies, our interactive play toys can lead to hours of fun!
If the attractant in your cat’s toy begins to fade over time, we offer our Happy Kat-Nippie Spray to enhance your cat's toys. A little spray on the toy and it’s sure to make any cat Huggle-Happy! Not only do cats love it, it also helps reduce bloating, anxiety, and stress – and targets cat’s “happy” receptors. Our Spray also works as a sedative, helps relieve stomach pain and treats inflamed skin, and keeps cats engaged with active play session.
Our HuggleKats®️ toys are sassy, lovable, and stuffed full of personality (along with premium catnip!), just like your cat. Now get playing!
]]>1. Pets provide comfort, and companionship. The bond with a pet helps you to not feel isolated, or lonely. When owners interact with their pets, by petting them, talking to them, or holding them, it stimulates their serotonin levels, leading to the feeling of being happy, and loved.
2. Pets force you to go outside! Your dog could always use a walk, in fact it's their favorite part of their day. Breathing in fresh air brings oxygen to the brain, allowing you think more clearly. Take a look at the sights around you, the animals scurrying by, the other dogs having a joy walk, and appreciate the fact that your dog depends on you to have these simple experiences!
3. According to American Heart Association, two out of three employees say work brings on stress and 40% say their job negatively affects their health. Studies show that pets in the workplace may help to reduce stress symptoms, and can overall improve employee satisfaction.
Whether stress and anxiety creeps up at you at home, in your workplace, or when you are just out and about, grab your pup and hold them a little tighter, allow them to help you remember that everything will be okay!
Our HuggleHug™ Lavender Bone and Calming Spray Set includes a calming lavender spray with anxiety-reducing pheromones, that may be used to spray on your pup's favorite toys, and HuggleFleece® mats (you may have to steal it to spray on yourself too! no one is judging..).
]]>Here are five things your can do with your pet, to show them how awesome of a pet parent you are:
1. Go on a bike ride together
As the weather warms up, why not take advantage of some extra sun? Whether you have a dog, that can keep up with a bike ride on leash, or a cat that fits in a basket, or a backpack, give your pet a fun ride today. The sounds and smells around you will stimulate your pet's senses, and lead to a rewarding nap when you get home.
2. Visit a local pet boutique
Now, we may be biased here, but we personally think a new toy is exactly what your pet needs today. Our recommendation is hmm.. anything HuggleHounds®! Many products can be found at a boutique near you, and are awaiting to be swooped away into your pet's paws. Your pet could also have some fun picking out some new treats, something they've never had before!
3. Teach them a new trick
Old, young, or somewhere in between, your furry friend could always use a challenge. Not only is mental stimulation great for their health, but it exhausts them as well, leading to a great snooze. Your pet' brand new stunts will be the talk of your next gathering.
4. Set up a photo-op
We take about 1,000 pictures a day of our beloved fur babies, but what could be more fun than a designated photoshoot? Not only will this be an exciting adventure for the two of you, but you'll also have some darling memories to forever look back on. Throw the final products in a photo album dedicated to your pet, so you always have a special place for them.
5. Simply show them you care
Whether your pet's favorite activity is licking heaps of peanut butter out of their favorite toy, getting some extra catnip, or just snoozing for hours on the couch, make sure you show them how much they mean to you and pay attention to their favorite things. A pet's love is undeniably the most pure, and forgiving love there is, so make sure your little furry friend knows that you will be by their side forever!
The ASPCA first started commemorating April as Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month back in 2006. Although important work is done on these efforts year-round, and it's always important to discuss, April has become the designated month for the celebration of the protection of animals, and to raise more awareness to the subject.
Animal cruelty involves any form of pain inflicted to animals by a human. This may involve cruel reprimanding, forceful performances for entertainment, experimenting on animals, and the list goes on.
Animal neglect is one of the more common types of animal abuse, and something that should be discussed to raise proper awareness. Due to the fact that neglect falls under the passive abuse category, it's vital to call out the signs and warnings to make everyone aware. Examples of neglect are malnutrition, failure to seek needed veterinary care, untreated/ prolonged infection, inadequate shelter, and so on.
At HuggleHounds®, we are passionate about the health of our pets, and all animals. Here are actions you may choose to take in order to participate in Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month this month:
Let's all come together this month and stand up against animal cruelty. Animals walk this earth with us, therefore they deserve the same respect we give one another.
]]>SGT Maja Reuss is an Army Veteran with PTSD who found help at WCC. Maja was matched with a WCC Service Dog - WCC's Buff - and their pairing has been absolutely life changing. The therapeutic help Service Dogs are capable of providing is incredible, especially for individuals with brain injuries. Maja has been able to see the effects first hand, and with the help of WCC's Buff, Maya feels more confident going outside of her comfort zone, and doing many things she struggled with before. "I find myself going to stores just because I want to take WCC's Buff and have her share the experience, and it's something I wouldn't have done before."
Part of that confidence comes from her deep trust in WCC's Buff's ability to recognize when she becomes stressed. "She makes me a lot more aware of my limitations if something becomes too stressful, so I know I can do it. She also knows when I have to leave, go home, or take a break. It's the energy she has that externalizes some of the feelings I'm going through in the moment." WCC's Buff also helps Maya feel less pressure when socializing in public. "People pay attention to her first. And with everyone standing in a circle looking at the dog, it takes the pressure off me". WCC's Buff was named in honor of United States Air Force Colonel Laurel “Buff” Burkel, and the name "Buff" is fitting in another way. "Jokingly, I always call her my buffer. She creates this buffer zone between me and the world, and with people paying more attention to her, I pay more attention to her in turn as well. The whole world revolves around her at that point."
The story of Maja and WCC's Buff is one of many that highlight the help Service Dogs can provide to people with brain injuries. You can learn more about Brain Injury Awareness Month here: https://www.health.mil/News/In-the-Spotlight/Be-a-Brain-Warrior"

Living Beyond Breast Cancer stays committed to spreading knowledgeable, trustworthy information regarding Breast Cancer, giving their community a safe space, and a place for hope. HuggleHounds® is proud to partner with this important cause, and a portion of your purchase of our Pink HuggleFleece® Bones will be donated to LBCC.
CARING FOR A PET HELPS WITH RECOVERY
Animals play a vital role with numerous hardships we go through in our lives, and recovering from breast cancer is no different. Pets are non-judgmental, and all ears. They are there for you on your best days and hold you a little tighter on your worst. Cuddling, and being close to your pets is a proven way to help your heart feel a bit better. Having pets also gives you a reason to get up and share some love with them, whether that's taking a quick walk in the fresh air or watching your favorite movie on the couch all day beside a furry, warm friend.
Some studies have concluded that caring for a loved pet while undergoing cancer treatment can improve your overall physical health by decreasing pain, lessening fatigue, and releasing serotonin as you care and love for your furry friend.
SHOWING YOUR SUPPORT
Living beyond Breast Cancer is a crucial partner for us at HuggleHounds®, especially during Women's Month, as they shed light to the importance of being there for your loved ones with Breast Cancer, or yourself. Through spreading reliable information, providing support through their Breast Cancer hotline, and hosting events to build a community, Living Beyond Breast Cancer has successfully spread the message that there is so much more to life than living just by your diagnosis.
You and your pet can directly support this cause through your purchase of a Pink Fleece Bone made with HuggleHounds® HuggleFleece®. Bring one home today and enjoy the company of your pets that love you endlessly.

One of our partners, Project K-9 Hero, works to provide the best quality of life for our nation’s retired Military Working Dogs and Police K-9 Heroes. Playing such an important role for our nation, this day serves to recognize the diligent effort of these furry heroes.
National K-9 Veteran's Day
K-9 Veterans Day was started by a Vietnam War veteran from Jacksonville, Florida, named Joe White. White worked closely with K-9 working dogs, and at the end of their working lives, White became aware and saddened by the euthanasia that inevitably ended these hero's lives.
White instilled National K-9 Veteran's Day as a way to honor, and bring awareness to the endless hard work, and bravery these animals displayed.
What makes military dogs special?
Military dogs are outstanding for a plethora of reasons but a few are important to take note of;
Here's what you can do to celebrate this important day:
United States Navy Lieutenant Commander Danielle “Purple” Thiriot, an active-duty Service Member was nominated for WCC’s namesake program. The service dog bearing her name - WCC’s Purple - was recently placed with a Veteran.
LCDR Danielle Thiriot was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. While attending a summer session at the U.S. Naval Academy, LCDR Thiriot was so impressed with the maturity and professionalism of the students; she knew she wanted to join the Navy. After her high school graduation, LCDR Thiriot accepted a NROTC scholarship to attend Harvard University. She was excited for the opportunity to serve, to work in diverse environments, and to see the world.
LCDR Thiriot completed primary and advanced flight training in Florida and Texas before earning her Wings of Gold in 2010, and training to fly the F/A-18 Superhornet. LCDR Thiriot served flying tours with the VFA-81 SUNLINERS, the VFA-106 GLADIATORS, and the VFA-143 Pukin’ Dogs. She deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve on the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) and the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72). On shore duty, LCDR Thiriot was an F/A-18 instructor pilot, an F/A-18 Tactical Demonstration Team pilot, and a Flag Aide.
The service dog bearing her name was recently placed with a Veteran, and Danielle shared how much it means to her knowing a service dog named in her honor is helping other Veterans. “It’s an honor to have ‘Purple’ named after me and to know that she will live a life dedicated to serving Veterans,” said Danielle. She was even able to meet the dog named in her honor. “I love dogs and have enjoyed watching her progress through training. I had the chance to meet ‘Purple’ in California last year and learned we share a love of food!”
When asked to reflect on her service, LCDR Thiriot shared, “I’ve been privileged to serve on some amazing teams during my time in the Navy and have made lifelong friends. The incredible power of the right team, working together toward a common goal, is something I will never forget about my time in the Navy. I have witnessed the reality of the sacrifice and commitment it takes to serve - and have friends who have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives in service to our country. Remembering and honoring their service has been an important and impactful part of my career.”
“Our Service dogs have an important mission—to carry on the legacies of these heroes while helping recovering Veterans who have sacrificed so much for our nation,” says Rick Yount, founder and executive director, Warrior Canine Connection. “We feel it’s important that those Veterans have their stories told and their lives honored through our namesake program. We designed the Tuffut-Lon™ Bobb with a dog-first design in mind – just like all of our toys. This one truly takes the cake in considering how a dog’s mind really ticks! Learn more about its features, benefits, and physiological design that’s great for pups below.
The design of the Tuffut-Lon™ Bobb makes it easy for pups to hold in place and chew on to their heart's delight. With a hefty base wide enough for your dog to wrap their paws around, any dog can anchor Bobb to the floor to hold as they chew away. Toys that require thumbs will only get your dog so far. This “bone-only-better” design helps your pup tap into their natural instinct to gnaw and chew, which encourages mental stimulation and prevents boredom.
The hard nylon makes chewing and gnawing for hours on end simple. We’re sure you’ve run into toys that seem durable and then your pup proves you wrong in a matter of hours. Tuffut-Lon™ Bobb isn’t going anywhere–at least without some serious determination. The durable nylon material and design of the toy overall mean hours of enrichment for your pet. So they can chew away without making much of a dent. You can feel reassured your pup has finally met its match in a toy.
As if the deal weren’t sweet enough already, this toy is all the more enticing to pups for its delicious and exclusive HuggleHounds® Grilled Chicken flavoring that lasts the life of the toy. Dogs can smell the tempting treat and continue chewing and gnawing for hours. It’s a great way to keep them busy and satisfy their natural instinct without overindulging on treats. You may be amazed how long your pup can go after this “bone” before they get bored. Rest assured, they’re sure to come back for more later, too!
Last but certainly not least, we made Tuffut-Lon™ Bobb in a variety of sizes from Wee to Large for pups of all species and sizes. What fun is it to have a toy that doesn’t fit in your pup’s mouth which leads to lost interest quickly? And you certainly don’t want a toy that’s too small for your big dog, which can pose a hazard. We want to help pups make the most of playtime and make sure you feel confident that your pup has thoughtfully crafted toys. No tricks and trinkets, just down to the basics like every dog needs.
This latest Product of the Week really is designed for dogs. See for yourself the benefits your dog will get out of this “bone-only-better” toy. Keep your dog active, enriched, and tapped into their natural instincts – and be amazed when Tuffut-Lon™ Bobb is still around after a while.
]]>Loud noises, sharp clippers, and someone all up in your space? Your pup may understandably feel a little anxious about the groomer to begin with, but we know your groomer probably does what they do because they love dogs. Help your pup make a friend of the groomer by getting them adjusted early on to someone in their space.
Try introducing them to the blow dryer and clippers slowly at home, and maybe throw in a few treats to make a positive connection. Consider taking your pup on a walk before walking into the dog salon to relieve stress. Bring your pup’s favorite toy with them to the groomer to provide a support system. These are little things to help your pup make a friend!
Hey! Who’s that outside our house?! An intruder, a stranger? No, it’s the mail carrier! We know the old go-around that dogs chasing the mailman and biting his bottom to reveal heart-adorned undies is an old motif, but we know nowadays your mail carrier may actually look forward to your house to see your pup.
To help your dog feel just as excited to see the mail carrier, consider leaving treats out near your mailbox for your mail carrier to gift your dog. Your pup may eventually see more of a friend rather than a foe in time.
Vets do what they do because they love all animals, especially dogs. Dogs are our best friends and there are a few ways to help your pup figure out the vet is there to take care of them, not hurt them. Everything from treats to toys could help your pup take a second to get adjusted to their new surroundings for the time being.
Consider bringing their favorite treats with you to the vet and offering them to your pet while the vet does their exam – if the vet doesn’t have their own already! Your pup may also love a toy to snuggle with or chew on while you and the vet talk through details. It can be scary to be up on that table waiting for something to happen sometimes. The main thing is always to help your pup know the vet is a friend who cares as much as you do.
We want your pup to have a pack full of friends. Our Wee People 3-pack is another great way to get your pup in with the right folks. Cozy up with our Wee People Groomer, Mail Carrier, and Vet, and let your pup feel excited about seeing their real-life friends, too. These are all folks who love dogs, and this is one fun way to help your dog love them back. Help your dog make more friends with our Wee People 3-pack!

]]>Learn more about the Lunar New Year and what it means to be born in the Year of the Rabbit below!
Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. The holiday is sometimes called the Lunar New Year because the dates of celebration follow the phases of the moon. Every year is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals. It’s said those born in that year will have determining traits that will help define who they are.
The 12 signs, in the following order, are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each sign has its turn every 12 years. So if 2020 was the Year of the Rat, then the Year of the Pig won’t occur again until 2032!
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. According to astrology, those born in the Year of the Rabbit are predicted to be gentle, quiet, and alert. They may also develop traits like being skillful, kind, and patient. It’s said they’re hesitant to reveal themselves, preferring instead to escape reality, but they’re faithful to those around them.
Maybe you’re expecting a 2023 puppy who will inherit some of these admirable traits, or you have an older pup with whom you share these identifiers. Either way, it’s fun to think about how we’re born to be who we are and who we make ourselves to be.
Whether you bring home a new puppy in 2023 or have a 12-year-old pup who’s a gentle giant with a playful heart of gold, you may actually have a ‘Rabbit’ on your hands. This Lunar New Year, celebrate your pup the best way you know how: love and affection, treats and walkies, and of course, new friends to play with!
The Year of the Lucky Rabbit Knottie® is new to our family, so be sure to welcome her into yours. She’s Limited Edition and perfect for snuggling up with this January. We’ll see you in 2031 for the Year of the Dog!

]]>There’s more than one way to have fun with a dreidel. Learn the game and history, and include your pup in the gift exchange. Our Plush Dreidel is for your pup to celebrate Hanukkah!
A dreidel is a small four-sided spinning top that’s used in a game by the same name. It’s played by small children during Hanukkah, but everyone of all ages (and species!) can get involved in the fun. A dreidel has a Hebrew letter on each side: Nun, Gimel, Hey or Chai, and Shin. The letters form an acronym for the Hebrew saying Nes Gadol Hayah Sham, which can be translated to "a great miracle happened there," referring to the miracle which Hanukkah is centered around.
It’s speculated that the dreidel has deeper ties and meaning to Judaism and the Hanukkah story than it may seem at first glance. One 19th-century rabbi maintained that Jews played with the dreidel in order to fool the Greeks if they were caught studying Torah, sometimes in caves, from the Seleucids under Antiochus IV. At the first sign of Seleucids approaching, their Torah scrolls would be concealed and be replaced by dreidels.
Other historians may have figured out an elaborate numerological explanation that is based on the fact that every Hebrew letter has a numerical equivalent. Specifically, Nun, Gimmel, Hey/Chair, and Shin equal 358, which is also the numerical equivalent of Mashiach, or Messiah! (My Jewish Learning).
Playing the game of dreidel is easy and learning how to do so would be a great way to learn more about different holidays and cultures.
To play dreidel, each player puts one item from their pile of tokens into the center, making a 'pot'. Everyone takes a turn spinning the dreidel, and the letter that comes up when it lands determines what the player can do.
Nun means the player does nothing. Gimmel means the player gets everything in the pot. Hei means the player gets half of the pieces in the pot. If there is an odd number of pieces in the pot, the player rounds up! Shin means the player adds a game piece to the pot. Other players chant "Shin, Shin, put one in!" when the unlucky player's dreidel falls on this side. At the end of a player's turn, every player places another token into the pot.
When the player runs out of pieces, they are either out of the game or can ask another player for a loan. Overall, this is a great game to play with chocolate coins or small presents, and overall just have fun together!
There’s more than one way to have fun with a dreidel. Play dreidel with your friends and family. Learn the history of the dreidel. Include your pup in the gift exchange on one of eight nights of Hanukkah by giving them their own Plush Dreidel to enjoy themselves, too. Your pup is a part of the family and the Plush Dreidel can bring the holiday spirit to you as well as your dog.
We hope you learned something new and feel more excited for the holiday season. Happy Hanukkah from HuggleHounds®!
]]>For some Veterans, the price of freedom has been high. And for those who have lost a part of themselves, whether it is physically or emotionally, we want to help how we can and do whatever it takes to support our troops. For the remainder of 2022, we are partnering with Warrior Canine Connection (WCC).
Warrior Canine Connection is an organization whose mission is to provide support for disabled Veterans and military servicemen and women with the help of certified service dogs that WCC trains. Training a service dog for a fellow Veteran provides a valuable opportunity for a Warrior suffering from psychological injuries to regain skills lost, reintegrate into civilian life, and reconnect with their families, communities, and lives.
As part of their training, Warriors are responsible for teaching the dogs that the world is safe. Through that process, they must convince themselves of the same. They forge a genuine human-animal connection that can never be taken for granted.
Warrior Trainers and WCC have seen incredible results through their programs. They’re able to continue to do the work they do because of the support of people like you. When you support this HuggleCause™, you support troops and dogs alike in finding a safe way home.
You can help us in supporting WCC when you purchase the Luke and Tommy II Limited Edition Knottie®. For every Knottie® sold, we will donate a portion of the proceeds to this amazing non-profit so that they can continue to serve our troops and dogs nationwide.
If you’re interested in committing to a cause to support the troops this Veterans Day, consider purchasing a Limited-Edition Warrior Canine Connection Luke Lab and/or Tommy II Knottie® to support WCC. Whether it’s simply ordering one for your pup, a service member you love, or a local shelter that could use the toys, your support is greatly appreciated.
This is one way to stand in solidarity with our troops this Veterans Day and every day. Consider ordering the Limited-Edition Luke and Tommy II Knotties® and donate a portion of the proceeds towards our HuggleCause, Warrior Canine Connection, now.
]]>Whales are beautiful creatures full of mysteries from the deep. They deserve some extra love and what better way to share a smile than share a few fun facts about whales with friends? Learn more below and be sure to tell us if you learned something new!
Did you know: whales are mammals? Contrary to belief, they’re not fish at all but actually the largest mammal to roam (or swim!) the earth. The Antarctic blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is the biggest animal on the planet, weighing up to 400,000 pounds (approximately 33 elephants) and reaching up to 98 feet in length.
All whales can be divided into two groups: baleen whales and toothed whales. Baleen whales, like blue whales and humpbacked whales, have fibrous bone plates in their mouths to filter out inedible material and consume huge quantities of krill, plankton, and crustaceans.
Toothed whales — orcas, beluga whales, and sperm whales — have teeth that enable them to feed on larger prey such as fish and squid. Dolphins and porpoises are also considered whales because they have teeth. And: orcas are actually dolphins! They’re the largest members of the dolphin family.
Cool Fact: Humpback whales don’t eat for most of the year! Humpback whales in the Southern Hemisphere live off their fat reserves for 5 to 7 months each year. This is because they migrate from their tropical breeding grounds in the Southern hemisphere to even further south in the Antarctic.
No, it’s not a cantaloupe or an actual melon, but toothed whales have a large orb of tissue on their heads which allows them to call out to other whales and sing their whale song. This helps with their echolocation and communication.
We like to think that Whale of a Santa has a Santa hat on his melon so he can hone in on holiday cheer and happiness more easily!
Whale of a Santa has made the long journey to your home to spread some cheer this Christmas. The perfect gift from under the sea, under the tree! This majestic mammal is one friend you won’t want to leave behind for the holidays. Just look at that smile and tell us otherwise.
With a super soft exterior and un-stuffed interior with liners that have a zipper for filling in a snap, Whale of a Santa is a great friend to welcome home for the holidays. Available in Large & Super Sized, we know you’ll have a whale of a time together!

]]>Whether you adopt these for the future or learn something new, here are a few ways different countries and cultures celebrate the holidays around the world.
On December 23rd in the United States, most of us may be attending corporate Christmas parties, doing some last-minute shopping, or maybe decorating the tree before the family comes to town. In Oaxaca, Mexico, though, December 23rd is La Noche de Rabanos or “The Night of the Radishes”.
La Noche de Rabanos is a festival for merchants and artisans to sell radishes that are intricately carved. The symbols and motifs include everything for animals and architecture to the nativity story. The radish carvings are sold as Christmas centerpieces, and the creator of the best radish design wins a prize. That’s one way to celebrate!
Who needs fruit cake or figgy pudding when you have Kentucky Fired Chicken? In Japan, some 3.5 million Japanese families eat fried chicken on Christmas Eve! This is thanks to a marketing stunt by KFC in the 1970s called Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii, which translates to “Kentucky for Christmas.”
Christmas is not as widely celebrated in Japan as it is in the US, so this tradition was one way to make up for that. The KFC Christmas Meal is so popular, many customers pre-order their dinners—which includes fried chicken, cake, and champagne—MONTHS in advance.
We know a few pups who may prefer this tradition – that broom can be scary! In Norway, some people believe witches and spirits wander around on Christmas Eve, trying to stir up bad energy and cause trouble. But how can they wander without a broom? It’s a tradition to hide the brooms in Norway to prevent witches from ruining the holidays. It’s a tradition that has been around for centuries.
Norway may not be a fan of Italy’s Santa Claus, which is an ugly but sweet old witch: La Befana. The story goes that the Magi, on their way to visit baby Jesus, stopped at La Befana’s house to ask for directions. She was kind and told them where to go, and to thank her, they invited her to join them. She said she had too much housework to do and so they left. Eventually, she changed her mind and flew around trying to find them again so she could join.
It’s said that she flies on the night of January 5 (the eve of the Epiphany, which marks the Magi’s meeting with Baby Jesus), and much like Santa, La Befana brings toys to children. But instead of milk and cookies, Italians leave out a plate of local food and a glass of wine for her.
In poorer parts of Italy and, in particular, rural Sicily—a stick in a stocking was placed instead of coal. Being a good housekeeper, La Befana may also sweep the floor before she leaves. To some, this symbolized the sweeping away of the problems that year.
Again, tricky for Norway if they hide their brooms and don’t like witches on Christmas. But when in Rome!
Everyone has their own culture and traditions that they look forward to every year, and that means, there's always something to celebrate! Add a little extra pick-me-up to your holiday with a gift for your pup: the Celebration Moose Knottie®. With a magical soft and shimmery plush coat and Knottie® limbs that are designed to last, maybe giving your pup a little something for Christmas can be your new tradition.
]]>Where did the snowman come from though, besides the obvious “Snow” answer? Who made the first snowman ever and how has this tradition passed on throughout generations to lead to our beloved McSnowy, and how he’s the perfect friend for your pup? Learn the history of the snowman and why they’re not going anywhere until the sun comes out below.
It would be hard to pinpoint who made the first snowman given that snow melts before we can give anyone credit and times before cameras, but the snowman had to start somewhere. In his book “The History of the Snowman” , historian Bob Eckstein wrote that documentation of snowmen was found in the Book of Hours from the Middle Ages, found in a marginal illustration in the 1380 Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague.
More than one hundred years later, a 19-year-old Michelangelo was commissioned by the ruler of Florence, Italy, in 1494 to sculpt a snowman in his mansion’s courtyard. With snow being so sculptable, it was the perfect medium for creating art, and also beautiful in that it’s temporary.
Finally, the first-known photograph of a snowman, however, was taken in 1853 by Mary Dillwyn, a Welsh photographer. The original remains in the National Library of Wales.
Snowmen are more than a creative means of expression, too. Sometimes they were used as decoys or standins in the colder months when one couldn’t ignore guard duty but also needed a break to warm up.
In 1690 at Fort Schenectady, in what is now upstate New York, a remote Dutch settlement was under constant threat of attack. The gates were frozen open, which required guards to keep constant watch. When a blizzard hit, though, soldiers guarding the gates left a pair of snowmen in uniform at their post to protect the town when they left to get out of a blizzard.
Snowmen spiked in popularity when Frosty the Snowman, a known friend to winter and Christmas movie collections, came out in 1969. The movie came from the popular song that was originally released in 1950. This spurred on new renditions of the snowman, from Calvin & Hobbes alien snowmen to Japanese "Yukidaruma", similar to the Daruma doll, as they usually only have two sections instead of the known three.
The record for the world's largest snowman was set in 2008 in Bethel, Maine, and it was actually a snowwoman! She stood 122 feet and 1 inch tall, and was named Olympia in honor of Olympia Snowe, a U.S. Senator representing the state of Maine.
McSnowy, our sweet seasonal friend, continues the legacy of the snowman by being the perfect friend your pup needs on a snow day. Helping your pup get outside during the colder months can be tricky from icy conditions that make it hard to safely go on a walk or deep snow that you’re worried may clump in their paws. McSnowy is here to help alleviate winter time boredom and get some of that energy out when you have no place to go.
Let your pup snuggle up with McSnowy and more of our winter-themed dog toy friends to really make this winter more active that hibernal. Find a friend in McSnowy here!

]]>Our Tartan & Natural HuggleFleece 2' Bone with invincible squeaker is a great holiday stocking stuffer for the dog in your life this year. Whether it’s for your own pup or your dog best friend, the Tartan on this bone makes it extra festive and fun.
How did tartan come to be associated with the holidays and winter solstice as a whole though? What does the pattern on tartan mean and why those colors? We learned some interesting history behind the Tartan print that we want to share with you!
Tartan comes from Scotland. It’s a way to distinguish clans from one another, symbolizing family colors, connections, and history. Your tartan represented where you came from or maybe where you were going based on your family’s land ownership and allies.
Tartan was outlawed for a time by England, to force Scots into giving up their culture and adopt the English way of life. Today, tartan is no longer outlawed and remains a prominent symbol of Scotland.
Tartans have meaning, and the Tartan bone is no exception. Sure it’s a sign of good times and love for your pup by sharing a toy they can chew and gnaw through the winter months, but there is something special about the festive Tartan seen so often around the holidays.
The Christmas Tartan is inspired by the birth of Jesus, related to the Scots history as Celtic Pagans. When temps dropped and the Highland climate became all the more intense, Scots celebrated the winter solstice to brighten the shortest, darkest day of the year. It was also to ask their gods for the sun to come back soon. This often meant large gatherings of different clans, plenty of food and drink, and storytelling around the fire (NTS.org).
Green represents Frankincense. Red represents Myrrh. Yellow represents gold, associated with kingship. Gold, frankincense, and myrrh are the gifts given to the Baby Jesus by the three Kings in the nativity story, that are symbolic of Jesus' life and death.
You may also see what’s called Buffalo Plaid more throughout Christmas time, either at your family homes or in mountain lodges. Believe it or not, this tartan actually belongs to the Highland Clan MacGregor (Busy Bees Kids). Remember next time when you see a tartan that there’s a greater story behind it. It’s festive and cozy, and welcome year-round.
It's an unwritten style rule that red tartan plaids are reserved for the holidays season. Plaid is a classic holiday pattern that never goes out of style, and even if it isn’t the holidays, you can reverse the Tartan bone to show off the super soft HuggleFleece®. The invincible squeaker provides your pet with plenty of hours of mental stimulation, which is great during those colder winter months. Give your dog a Tartan bone when it may be best to stay in and snuggle rather than play in the cold.
Easy to wash and festive for an added bit of fun, this is one gift you can count on this holiday season. Sign up for our newsletter to receive 10% off your Tartan bone buy, or your first purchase as a whole! We know it may sound crazy to start your holiday shopping so soon, but it will be here before you know it, and we’re here to help you check one special gift off your list.
]]>Some treats are for humans and dogs, and some are better left to our secret snack drawers. Here are a few foods you can share with your dog, and some you'll want them to steer clear of.
Easy one we all know: dogs can't have chocolate! But why? As delicious as chocolate is for humans, it contains methylxanthines, which are toxic to dogs. They're stimulants that stop a dog’s metabolic process.
Any kind of chocolate, but especially dark chocolate (Science.org), can cause diarrhea and vomiting. So be careful leaving out your Halloween candy next month or putting chocolate somewhere your dog can easily get it.
On the other hand, cinnamon is not toxic to dogs, but it’s best to also steer clear of this common spice. Cinnamon and its oils can irritate the inside of dogs’ mouths, making them uncomfortable and sick (Wild Earth Blog). Something to keep in mind, especially as you bake up for your favorite pumpkin pies and apple crisps this fall.
Ice cream is also a no-go for pups (Trupanion). Your dog may dive for a lick of ice cream if it's offered, but it's best not to give them too much. It's delicious, of course, but it also contains lots of sugar so it is best not to share with your dog. Also, some dogs have an intolerance to lactose.
If you want a sweet treat to share on a hot day or give your dog something to chew on, try freezing chunks of fruit like strawberries, raspberries, and apples!
Honey is packed with nutrients! When you give your dog a lick of honey, know they're also getting vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K. So many good things there to help your pet's health and give them a little something, too.
Every dog is different but it's also possible that if your dog deals with allergies, to feed your dog local honey and help relieve symptoms (Pure Pet Food UK). It can sometimes build up a tolerance to allergens. Give it a try and consider consulting with your vet first!
Coconut is also okay for dogs to eat. It contains lauric acid, which can help combat bacteria and viruses (American Kennel Club). It can also help with bad breath and clear up skin conditions like dry patches or itchy spots.
Coconut milk and coconut oil can be safe for dogs, too. The main thing to keep in mind is that if you give your dog a whole coconut, keep an eye on them as the shell can be a choking hazard.
Warrior Canine Connection has been a nationally recognized resource and supporter of Warriors across the United States since 2011. Their efforts have changed the lives of many Veterans by providing a genuine human-animal connection by pairing them with a highly trained service dog.
There is something so special about dogs and how they seem to be able to instinctively provide a calming and dependable presence that truly cannot be replicated. Founder of Warrior Canine Connection, Rick Yount, realized this within his own Golden Retriever puppy during his days as a social worker. This realization eventually led to the establishment of Warrior Canine Connection.
Warrior Canine Connection purposefully breeds Labrador and Golden Retrievers and trains them to, one day, be a hero for our heroes, which is what inspired our current HuggleCause™ toys. Meet Luke and Tommy II, Labrador Retriever Knotties® that, with each toy sold, will directly benefit WCC and their mission to help recovering Warriors reconnect with their life, their families, their communities, and each other.

]]>Your pets are important! We know better than most how a pet can bring joy to your life. Learn more below on how caring for your pet can support your overall health through treatment, and how you can show your pup some extra love.
It’s important to ask for help when you need it! You can care for your pup while undergoing treatment by asking a friend or family member to help you take care of your dog. Walks are essential for any dog’s physical and emotional health. They require that socialization and workout, but we also understand that you may not be able to do so yourself right now.
If you’re unable to sit outside and play fetch with your dog or offer a way for your dog to expend energy, there’s no harm in asking for help! Take the time while your dog is with their walking buddy to rest up and maybe schedule in time to do something just for you.
After your pup has had a long walk to work out some energy, it’s time to rest, relax, and watch a movie! Snuggling up with your dog strengthens your bond together. They feel cared for while spending quality time with you, and as a patient undergoing treatment, you can note the significant benefits loving on your pet can do for your health.
Some studies have shown that caring for your dog while undergoing cancer treatment can improve your physical health by decreasing pain, lessening fatigue, and strengthening your bond with your dog.
This week’s Product of the Week is one close to our HuggleHearts. Not only is the Pink Fleece Bone made with HuggleHounds® HuggleFleece® and easy to throw in the wash to keep clean and sanitary – it’s made for hours of play. You can easily play fetch with your pup from your couch or bed with the Pink Fleece Bone. It’s also as simple as giving your dog the Pink Bone while you rest, allowing them to chew, shred, and tear to their heart's delight, expending energy.
Not only are you showing your pet some love while you rest, you can also help your pet feel refreshed and ready to take care of you whether they realize it fully or not. We know that when we snuggle up with our pups, we rest easy and know we have someone there for us in times that require great support. And there’s no greater support than your pet who loves you unconditionally.
We’re once again supporting Living Beyond Breast Cancer with the Limited Edition HuggleFleece Pink Bone. For every purchase made, we donate a part of the proceeds to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, a nationwide nonprofit that provides trusted information and a community of support to anyone impacted by breast cancer. This is a cause we stand by unyieldingly, and we love that we can support people and their pets alike.
In solidarity with such amazing and tireless efforts, our Limited Edition Pink Bone is ready for hours and hours of playtime, while also sending a clear signal of support for those impacted by breast cancer. Every Product of the Week is chosen on the fact we want to help you to take the very best care of your dog, and we know how they help take care of us, too. A portion of the proceeds goes to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and 100% of the puppy playtime goes directly to your fur baby.
