Learn more about the Lunar New Year and what it means to be born in the Year of the Rabbit below!

Why is it called Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. The holiday is sometimes called the Lunar New Year because the dates of celebration follow the phases of the moon. Every year is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals. It’s said those born in that year will have determining traits that will help define who they are.

What are the 12 Zodiac Signs?

The 12 signs, in the following order, are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each sign has its turn every 12 years. So if 2020 was the Year of the Rat, then the Year of the Pig won’t occur again until 2032!

Year of the Rabbit

2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. According to astrology, those born in the Year of the Rabbit are predicted to be gentle, quiet, and alert. They may also develop traits like being skillful, kind, and patient. It’s said they’re hesitant to reveal themselves, preferring instead to escape reality, but they’re faithful to those around them.

Maybe you’re expecting a 2023 puppy who will inherit some of these admirable traits, or you have an older pup with whom you share these identifiers. Either way, it’s fun to think about how we’re born to be who we are and who we make ourselves to be.
